Dry by Design: ProAmpac and Ozzi tackle moisture at the source | 21-08-2026 |
ProAmpac, an AIPIA member and leader in flexible packaging and material science, recently announced the successful commercialization of ProActive Intelligence® Moisture Protect MP-1000, a breakthrough active packaging technology developed in collaboration with Ozzi, a brand specializing in stick-pack formats for sensitive powdered products.
Moisture Protect MP-1000 is a patent-pending film technology designed to address one of the most persistent challenges in food, health and wellness products: moisture-driven degradation, according to the company. The new active packaging integrates fellow AIPIA member Aptar CSP Technologies’ 3-Phase Activ-Polymer™ technology. With this, the MP-1000 series of films actively adsorbs residual moisture from the package headspace, eliminating the need for traditional desiccant packets while maintaining excellent barrier performance, it claims.
“Moisture Protect MP-1000 demonstrates how active packaging can move beyond protection to actively enable product performance,” said Bob Flaherty, vice president of product development. “Our collaboration with Ozzi shows what’s possible when material science is aligned with real-world product challenges—delivering better outcomes for brands and consumers alike.”
Ozzi partnered with ProAmpac to solve taste and odour issues caused by excess moisture trapped inside stick packs. Traditional packaging couldn’t keep the interior dry enough, which affected product quality and reduced shelf life.
By switching to this new active packaging, Ozzi dramatically improved performance, it says. The technology actively removes moisture from the package interior, helping protect flavour, prevent unwanted odours and maintain overall product quality.
“MP-1000 allowed us to solve a critical product performance issue while simplifying our packaging system,” said Brandon Kuipers, founder of Ozzi. “By removing residual moisture at the source, we were able to protect flavour without compromising efficiency or adding complexity to our operation.”
This active packaging is designed to integrate seamlessly into existing packaging lines and offers customizable moisture protection says ProAmpac. By eliminating the need for loose desiccants, the technology improves product quality, reduces waste, and extends shelf life, making it a versatile solution for moisture-sensitive applications across food, health, and wellness products, it believes.
